WiggleWorks

Review one of these resources and blog about how you can or will use the resource while you are student teaching

This resource caught my eye because of the name and because of the age group it serves. I am currently working with 3-5 year olds, so it is perfect! Here is a description from the website “WiggleWorks sets the standard for beginning-reading software with an award-winning blend of technology, literature, and teacher support. WiggleWorks provides leveled reading practice, built-in instruction, and motivation for students to engage in reading and writing.” In this day and age, technology is becoming more and more prevalent in education. To prepare our children we need to introduce them(in small doses at a time) to it early so they can become familiar with what is out there. It offers numerous activities for children to develop their reading and writing skills while keeping them engaged and motivated. It allows the students to use their imagination to explore the different parts of reading and writing. They also offer books and instructional materials for teachers. If I had this software available to me during my student teaching I would use it during center time with students on a individual basis. When appropriate, I would do whole or small group activities, such as making a class book.  The major downfall about it though it the price-$2,500 eek!! But it is something that a school could work together and fundraise for!

My Question for you!

What experiences outside the school setting have you had, that you feel will contribute to how you will run/teach your classroom/students?

Multiculturalism

How will the influences of your culture impact your decisions/practices as a classroom teacher?

I believe that as a teacher you have to be aware of where you come from and what you believe in. That is part of who you are. That will be evident on how you present yourself and in your teaching. I have always been accepting of all. Which I will say is somewhat of a different view of my parents(I think it’s a generational thing). I will make sure that I present the message that everyone is different(this is especially prevelant in Special Education) and that is what makes them unique. Each person will have a different view on things. Those views help people see that there is more than one way to look at something. I will also be aware that some families may not understand what is going on in the classroom. I will do everything that I can to help them understand, whether it is having a conference with them to answer questions or interpreting a letter that is sent home so that they will be able to understand. Being a teacher(no matter what the speciality) you have to be patient, flexible, understanding, and most of all aware of your students and their background so that you can meet the needs of all.

My husband Matt and I on our wedding day :)

Hello There! For those of you who don’t know me my name is Tarah Myers. I am currently a senior(finally!!) at Towson University studying to get my degree in Infant/Primary Special Education with certification also in Early Childhood Education. I am currently student teaching a a school in Baltimore County that serves children ages 3 through 5. This has been my first week and so far it has been great! I have already taken over some of the daily teaching responsibilities such as circle time and the closing story/activity. I look forward to becoming more involved especially with the IEP process.
